This piece was made during my days being a “Berliner” in ArtCenter Study Away program in Fall 2019, I was assigned an “unfamous” place in Berlin to experience & portray about. Instead of creating a documentary of Teufelsberg, the abandoned cold war spy station built on the debris of WWII, I edited a music video to capture, contextualize and express my feelings physically wandering in the mysterious and dilapidated space itself, and how it reminds me of how cruel and intense the wars were.
The paradoxical life arcs of Teufelsberg regarding its birth, perishment & rebirth during the war, being used, abandoned & reused by the military in the old days, and finally “misused” by graffiti artists & tourists now are the most intriguing attributes for me. By storytelling via humanity & history, I aimed to explore the relationships between war & peace, life & death as they’re our eternal themes & traumas of all time throughout history, which also reflected by the current Ukraine-Russia crisis.
