Passionate about telling stories through communicative and interactive visuals, May Chen’s work often explores the concept of dreams and how they work as portraits of human emotions & identities.
To May, in this mixed-reality techy world we’re currently living in, walking in our dreamscape resembles having a second life in an alternative world, and how we explore, dissect, and amplify how our memories, experiences, and subconscious selves are metaphorically presented in our dreams could pave us a new perspective to investigate unknown human natures & desires.
Taking some of the most profound dreams in her brain for inspiration, May designed an immersive multi-media installation project that aim to serve as an example of how a dream could be reinvestigated and rebuilt as an illusional sensory experience. By forcing this mental experience to inhabit real-life space, the work adds another layer to the dream experience and questions the importance of materiality in sensory experience.
