Opera Dada Project
MFA1 – School of Music – VoiceArts
The Opera Dada Project, inspired by the women artists of the Dada movement, features original performance art between 19 collaborators. The Opera Dada Project highlights the voice (both acoustic and electronic) through original music, improvisation, graphic scores, and extended vocal techniques. The pieces within the Opera Dada Project are an eclectic mix ranging from campy to grim and draw from the works of Emmy Hennings, Mina Loy, Baroness Elsa Von Freytag-Loringhoven, Hannah Höch, Sophie Taeuber-Arp, Sayako Kishimoto, and Florine Stettheimer, among others. The Opera Dada Project was born from J. Bobak’s Dada’s Divas class. The Opera Dada Project will present pieces alongside the Futurist Dinner Party (another CalArts Expo submission), outside the Wild Beast. Together, the Opera Dada Project and the Futurist Dinner Party will last 45 minutes.
