NogginSonix: SolFanix is an art installation consisting of twelve glass heads, one for each of the notes of the chromatic scale. On and in the heads are symbols from many musical cultures and languages: Kodaly hand signs, Indian Sargam, Chinese Gongshe, Shape Notes, Greek vocal notation, Western five line staff notation, and more. The heads can be controlled over a wireless network via Open Sound Control (OSC).
For the Expo, a 3-4 minute demonstration video will be created to show the heads visualizing musical information (simple scales and melodies, two part counterpoint, etc), responding to vocal singing in real time, and a short segment of a composition written specifically for the heads.
