During my recent exhibition at gallery Luis De Jesus in Los Angeles (November 13 – December 22, 2021), I conducted a survey entitled In 20 Years. Visitors were asked to complete a questionnaire about existential issues, such as whether we believe in intergenerational justice, if we can imagine a post-capitalist new order, or if humanity is heading towards a bright future or self-destruction. The results are compiled on the website pluralism.xyz, with presentation options allowing viewers to combine questions into custom graphics.
In 20 Years is part of an ongoing series of surveys about how we ask and think about big-picture questions, and about the role that data and the broader concept of “measurement” play in relation to crucial societal issues.
The interface for data visualisation was constructed by Nicolas Epstein, with editing by Saelan Twerdy. Thanks to Yue Zhang, Luke Harnden, Antoinen Midant, Natalie Parades, Stacie Martinez, Marc Arranaga, Jay Wingate and Luis de Jesus for their assistance. This project was made possible with the support of the Canada Council for the Arts.
