Diasporic existence as a fluctuation between identifications to distinct cultural and spatiotemporal histories begets a theater of connection. The projection of the house, the site of belonging, expands into a broader foundation of diasporic community-building. Place is not delimited; as a migrant, it moves with you. It is you. The landscape transforms with the passage. Text is hand-embroidered into window mesh and placed over a painting, allowing a view into the private: moments shared between loved ones, the movement through time by a racialized body subject to the system of feeling that is racial melancholia, expressions of ceremonial grieving. The image is fixed at such a distance to prevent simultaneous viewing of the text in focus, replicating the dissociative effect in cognition when one attempts to conceptualize the dissonance of living in-between.
