The Futurist Dinner Party, supported by the Interdisciplinary Project Grant, will explore dining as performance art, following the guidelines of Marinetti’s The Futurist Cookbook (1932). The art of self-nourishment should be creative and multi-sensory: “eating futuristically, one uses all the five senses.” The FDP will focus on the following synergies: conmusica (harmony between music + flavor), conrumore (noise as complement to flavor), contattile (tactile sensation as enhancer of flavor), conprofumo (olfactory affinity of scent + flavor), and conluce (visual affinity of light with flavor). The menu includes Aeroplane-shaped bread, Sunshine Soup, Edible Landscape, Italian Sea, Cosmic Apparitions, Dates in Moonlight, and The Bombardment of Adrianopolis. The idea for this project emerged from J. Bobak’s Dada’s Divas class. The Dinner will be accompanied by performances from the Opera Dada Project. There will be 25 place settings for dinner party guests (reservations via lottery system).
